Home Decor: Floating Shelves and Curved Bookshelves Edition
Call it COVID or call it 33, but home decor has become a focal point for me the last several months. I know Iโve mentioned this a few times before, but home decor is an insecurity for me. Iโve always admired from afar, but havenโt cared much to get involved. Whether the lack of interest in involvement was due to truly not caring or a reflection of my own insecurities, weโll never know. But whatโs sure is that now I canโt get enough of it. I still doubt my choices and my โeyeโ for interiors every time I get something new, and my mom and sister essentially find all my pieces for me, but weโve come a long way.
All that said, Iโm so in love with these new shelving additions Iโve added to my abode that I felt compelled to dedicate a blog post to them. Iโm proud to say that the floating shelves in my bedroom were entirely my idea; the phrase โfloating shelvesโ came to me out of thin air. I had never thought about it beforeโI tend to get very comfortable in my surroundings and donโt see the need to update, upgrade, or improve. However, my lovely boyfriend (whoโs a creative and in the business of design) pointed out that my current bedroom wall situation made little to no sense.
Very sad, I know. My sister, who is also a creative and also in the business of design, put this wall together. At the time, it looked and felt right. She felt it, and I did, too. But a year later, it looksโฆ a mess. I didnโt realize it until my man vocalized it, but itโs been on my mind ever since. I know enough to know that my โvibeโ is sophisticated boho; not collegiate boho with door beads, tapestries as wallpaper, and nag champa burning in every room, but rattan and snake plants with pops of leather and gold boho. So, because Iโm a simple girl, I literally searched โboho floating shelvesโ on Amazon and immediately found exactly what I didnโt even know I was looking for.
This is a big moment for me, guys. I rarely come up with house improvements on my own, so the fact that this idea of floating shelves came to me soโฆnaturallyโฆis unheard of. I love these shelves so much. They were only $25 for the 2 and instantly elevated my bedroom wall to a whole new level. The install was wildly easy (my bf did it. I didnโt do it), and whatโs awesome is the shelves come with three sets of hanging rings to choose from: black, gold, and silver. That way, you can choose which finish looks best in your room! Obviously, I went with gold. Also, donโt be fooled by the thin stringsโthe shelves can hold their weight. Maybe not TONS of weight, but enough for a fake succulent, a candle, and a smart device.
THE ART ON MY WALL
Now, the star of the show and this blog post: this curved bookcase from none other than Target. Before you click on it and see that itโs sold out, DONโT GET DISCOURAGED. It was sold out when Ellen found it, too (because full disclosure: Ellen 100% found this bookcase) but she and I both signed up to be notified when and if it was back in stock, and wouldnโt you know Target actually follows through with all that! Thatโs the only way we got our hands on one. So if youโve already fallen in love with this bookcase, sign up to be notified because MIRACLES DO HAPPEN.
What can I say about this perfectly curved bookcase that you canโt see? Itโs perfect. Itโs roomie. Itโs unique. It offers so much in just 6 feet and 4 shelves. Itโs a bit of a bitch to put together; itโs not difficult or confusing, itโs just time consuming. But worth it, as you can see.
I just love it so, so much. Itโs such a happy, lighter, much more โmeโ upgrade from what I was working with for the last several years. Which actually also is a great Target bookcase, just much more masculine and not the sophisticated boho vibe Iโm after. See below.
Thank you for indulging me in this shelf moment. For those of you whoโve been in the audience for years upon years now, youโve had a front row seat to the evolution of my style, both with fashion and home interiors, and I hope my growth has made you proud!
xox,
