I’M EMMA GOLDEN OF EMMASTHING

In March 2010, I was a very lost 23-year-old recent college grad who had no idea what she was doing in any facet of life, but knew she needed a public platform on which to share her misadventures. For years, EMMASTHING was nothing more than a creative outlet for my writing but has evolved into a no bullshit community for open books, storytellers, and general bad asses.

I've been told I have a knack for saying/writing what everyone is thinking and can somehow spin the most everyday day into a story. In other words, I’m dramatic AF.

IF I CAN MAKE one person a day SAY "OMG. SAME! maybe i’m not that weird/alone,” I'VE DONE WHAT I CAME TO DO.

PROFESSIONALLY SPEAKING

After 11 years working as a professional copywriter in corporate America, I left that world behind in June 2020 and started EMMASTHING LLC to pursue my lifelong dream of full-time freelance writing. I have a passion for all forms of writing, especially storytelling. I work to help people find their voice and create messages that flow together seamlessly. Ghostwriting, blogging, articles & pieces, blurbs on blurbs, digital, website, copywriting, copyediting—I do it all.

I’m also a part of the rewardStyle/LIKEtoKNOW.it influencer platform, and often share my clothing, home goods, and beauty finds for a small kickback (yes, I make a small commission off all that. A girl’s gotta eat!) and work with brands such as Papa John’s, Sierra Winter Jewelry, Small Packages Co, Necessaire, ABLE and others! I’m always open to more collaborations with brands I feel fit my voice and align with my personality!

I've been around the Internet block, writing for The Every GirlBravo television on BuzzfeedElite DailyThought CatalogHello Giggles, Express's blog, and even had a piece printed in Cosmopolitan magazine (South Africa). I am also the ghostwriter behind acclaimed fashion blogger Fashion Jackson as well as several others that I am not at liberty to divulge (but if you ask me nicely, I might).

If you have writing needs or interest in working together in other capacities, fill out my contact form and let’s talk!

GET TO KNOW ME BETTER

• I'm a 100% Eastern European Jew, but am often mistaken for the Latina, Grecian, Middle Eastern, and even mixed persuasion. However, I assure you I’m just a boring ass white girl.

• I was born in Los Angeles, lived in Connecticut until I was 10, moved to the suburbs in Plano, Texas, went to college in Kansas, and moved back to Dallas proper where I’ve been residing ever since (10 years in the M streets, and newly on the west side of town in Oak Cliff).

• My amazing mom (Ellen) and I had an advice podcast called “Yeah, We Said It” and it’s available via Apple Podcasts (and also many other podcast platforms). With everything that’s gone on in 2020, it’s been our last priority, but I’m hoping we pick it back up in the new year!

• I went to the University of Kansas and graduated in 2009 with a Journalism degree (and a minor in film, which hasn't come in handy whatsoever save for being able to throw out a few impressive throwback movie titles here and there).

• I have a long dating history and tons of stories because men are often the worst (I will write a book one of these days). However, I met the love of my life in April during this global pandemic and can sometimes get sappy as hell about him and our little family.

• My daughter's name is Cece and she's an 8-year-old Cavapoo (Cavalier Kings Charles + Poodle = best breed ever).

• I workout regularly and have been training for the past year with a virtual personal trainer who has become a good friend, Meg Morat (HIGHLY recommend). We do live workouts on Instagram every other week, so keep an eye out and join one sometime! I also have a history with Kayla Itsines' Bikini Body Guide and Orange Theory.

• I love to cook and try new recipes all the time.

• I cuss. A lot. I also have been described as a “girl with frat boy antics,” so if crotch sweat and tampon talk upset you, turn away.

• I’d bet I’m Girlfriend’s biggest customer, but they won’t sponsor me. But that’s okay. I’ll never stop trying.

• Taylor Swift is a religion and I really dislike Justin Timberlake (the two aren’t related; I just felt they fit here).

• One time, I stood on the Dallas Comedy House stage in a room full of strangers and read from my 14-year-old self's diary. Then, I did it again but from my 17-year-old self's diary.

• Trap gets me amped, jazz gets me focused, pop gets me singing, and country can GTFO. I have a workout playlist full of trap that you should definitely follow!
